The Academy supported students’ academic growth by embedding a Supplemental Instructor (SI) in each course. SIs attended class Monday-Thursday and offered sessions outside of class to reinforce difficult concepts. As a condition of participating in the Academy, all students were required to attend Supplemental Instruction. SIs offered one-on-one tutoring in the evening on a drop-in basis for extra support. To increase their effectiveness, SIs collaborated with faculty and mentors to ensure that students received holistic support.
Study Athon
SIs hosted a Study Athon the Saturday before finals. Participants were given time to work on group projects, complete assignments with the assistance of tutors, participate in a presentation skills workshops, and meet with the mentors for stress reduction sessions.
